Drums

John takes pride in making each drum a work of art.  Having been a drummer and drum-maker for ten years, he understands what materials and processes are required to make a beautiful sounding drum.

Materials used:

Shell: John often uses imported djembé shells from West Africa and where possible hand picks every shell, understanding how their particular shape will effect their sound.  For dun duns he works with a variety of recycled materials.

Skins: Australian skins are used – goat, cow or synthetic as requested.

Rope: John uses only the highest-quality drum cord for his drums.

If you would like to be a part of making your own drum, you can choose your own fabric, colours, choose the drum shell you are drawn to, and John can make the drum for you.  John also runs drum-making workshops – two days, in nature, spending time creating your own drum, eating good food and enjoying good company.
